Welcome at our website of Dominique's G.B's Chesapeakes.

We,my wife Carjoanne, and our daughters,Laurine ( 10 ) and Kiki( 7 ),
live the beautifull Province of Zeeland in the Netherlands.
We live on a peninsula called Schouwen-Duiveland.
The main town here is Zierikzee.

We live in the country in a little place called Schuddebeurs.
On Schuddebeurs the rich people from the town Zierikzee stayed in the summer in there Villa's,in winter they preferred the town.
This island became rich because of the fleet and doing trade in the Far- East and West-Indies.That was the VOC time in the GOLDEN CENTURY.
In the later centuries it became more an agricultural province.

We are surrounded by water and have a lot of wildfowl here.
Ducks,pheasants,geese,hare,rabbits,pigeons,even deer.

Hunting is limited on species and time of the year,not on bags!!!
We are allowed to hunt on;
Deer, ducks,certain geese,rabbits,hare,pheasants,partridge and pigeons and the last ones and the rabbits the whole year on.
We're organized in clubs and every hunter must collect all his info on what he has shot and that,of the whole island,will be adminstered at these clubs and given to the Wildlife-authority.
We,as hunters,are aware of our respon.and look very close on what we're hunting and how much we will harvest.
Many and divers seafish is coming with the fishingboats in our harbours and this province is famous for his mussels,oysters and even wild LOBSTERS!! (I'm the vice-chairman of the Foundation Of Oosterschelde lobsters and we eat a lot of them.)

Very particular sea-vegetables are growing on- and near the coast and they taste wonderfull!!

The Provincecapital is called Middelburg,very much known by the ROOSEVELT-ACADEMY and the FOUR FREEDOM AWARDS and every other year this award is given or in Middelburg or in New York to a person who did stand for these FREEDOMS.( Mr.Nelson Mandela,Mr.Kofi Annan and many other celebr.got this award!!) The ancestors of President Roosevelt came from Zeeland.

Zeeland is always fighting against the influence of the SEA.
In 1953 there was a very big disaster and more than 1800 people drowned and this is still a very black page in our history.
That's why a  big dam is built in the last 25 years to save the land from the SEA.
The credo of Zeeland is "Luctor et Emergo",by persistence,I will overcome the trouble with the sea.
